So, this past week has been a little bit crazy. I have been focusing on getting product off the loom and setting up arrangements at work to get ready to move in a couple months.
It has been stressful.
So to alleviate some of this stress here is an artist who I love.
Stephanie Metz
She is a felt artist who resides in San Jose, California. She received her BFA in Sculpture from the University of Oregon. Her works focus on overly domesticated creatures, especially those whose form has overgrown their function. Her work has been featured in "500 Felt Objects" produced by Lark Books and many selected group exhibitions.
I love her work because it is intimate, detailed and a little creepy. I appreciate her use of natural wool colors in conjunction with unexpected materials (like porcupine quills and metal mesh). Below are a few selected images which were taken by the artist herself.
I urge you to go explore her other works and read her extensive resume. She is an amazing artist that I hope one day to meet. Head on over to her website and check out all the awesomeness that is Stephanie Metz!
