Step by Step: Things to Come

The holidays are coming to a close, and I starting a project for the blog that will aid you and myself in learning more about the craft of weaving.

I am going to be developing a photographic glossary of terms that can be referred at any time when reading the blog. In the next few weeks you will be learning about warp, weft, shuttles, the parts of the looms and some nifty techniques that I use while I am working.

This post however is going to explain how I am going to develop this glossary for you.

I have a growing library of textile and weaving books in my home- I cross reference definitions so I can clarify what I am seeing and I look at my own weavings and try to properly use terminology in describing issues and qualities of the cloth. By doing so I am incorporating my visual learning skills while developing a way to describe in literal terms what I am looking at and doing.

This will be an ongoing and expanding project so that in the future when you are reading a post and I refer to "the fell of the cloth" you will be able to look up fell and learn that it is where the shed and the woven cloth meet. Of course that may not make sense to you now, but it will in the future.

I look forward to getting feedback on the progression of the glossary and addressing any questions that may arise through this process.

Meanwhile, I hope that you all had a joyous holiday season and I look forward to hearing from you about this digital project.
